Phira

Phira is a Dutch built Compromis 909 (confusingly, actually 9.40 metres long), made by the C-Yacht company of Lelystad.  They are renowned for producing strong boats to a high standard of construction that should last for years and take you pretty much anywhere in the world.

Most Compromis boats are of a centre cockpit design - a layout we like, as it gives us a good sized aft cabin (our bedroom), which is better for liveaboards like ourselves.

So, just under 32' long and 11' 6" at it's widest.  We have an inboard Yanmar 2GM diesel engine for when we need to get in and out of marinas, harbours, etc. - or for when the wind isn't being kind to us.  Phira has a fin keel, with a draught of 1.5 metres (about 5') and a mast that is 15 metres high.

Phira was built in 1986, being commissioned by her original German owner, who named her after the town on the Greek island of Santorini.  She was then bought in 2000 by an English owner from East Yorkshire who kept her at various local marinas and boatyards before ending up at Beverley Beck.  We first saw Phira in 2009 and although we were impressed, she was well out of our price range at that time.  Two years of patience and hard negotiating paid off and we took ownership in July 2011.

Sam looks a bit apprehensive about what we've bought!
